Junior/Youth A or B Teams

For Boys & Girls ages 13-17

These teams meet for two hours, one night a week, and do team routines and syllabus (technique) during that time period. They do fun, local performances and competitions, and also travel to Utah for a competition in February. During the fall and winter months we have team socials, and for our Utah competition we travel together on our team bus, have pizza, go swimming, etc. We like to have fun as a team, but we also work hard and expect excellence and dedication. Our teams are all national title holders at Gem State National Show Dance Championships, and they do really well with the limited time we have with them in class each week. Dancers will be selected for the Jr/Yth A and B Teams on a space-available basis during our Team Placement Day on May 20, 2023.

***Since this is a formation team with set choreography and set numbers of boys and girls, dancers need to be committed for the full dance from the first of September through the end of April and have regular team attendance.

***Girls that are new to our studio are required to register with a boy (that’s also new to our studio) of similar age and ability level. (Ages 13-17 for Jr/Yth Teams). Please specify who you’re registering with on your registration form in the comment section. This is just to help our boy/girl ratio, you won’t be their assigned partner for the year. Everyone switches partners and has the opportunity to dance with everyone on their team.

***To be considered for this team, complete registration through the Parent Portal, pay your registration fee, and select “Jr/Yth A or B Team” in the class options to let us know you’ll be auditioning. Then attend Team Placement Day on Saturday, May 20, 2023 starting at 8:00 am, or make other audition arrangements with us. (Information about the Team Placement Day can be found in the News/Announcements Section). After we finalize teams we’ll adjust the classes in your Parent Portal accordingly. If there’s not an available spot for you on our Jr/Yth A or B Team, we’d love to have you dance dance with us on our Novelty Team.

Junior/Youth Novelty Teams

For Boys & Girls ages 13-17

New this year! We’re adding a Novelty Team for our Jr/Yth dancers. It’ll be a lot of fun and open up more options for our 13-17 year olds since no audition is required. Team is one hour/week and will perform/compete a fun team routine at all of the same events as Jr/Yth A & B Teams, including the Utah Competition! Novelty Team will learn fun choreography and work on technique but won’t compete syllabus. We’re not worrying about having even numbers of boys and girls on this team. This could be your only team, or you could add it in addition to your other classes/teams. (Depending on your preference, but also depending how team placement works out for Jr/Yth A and B teams). We’ve scheduled the Novelty Team back to back with the Strength & Movement class to make scheduling easier if you’d like to enroll in both.

***Since this is a formation team with set choreography and set numbers of boys and girls, dancers need to be committed for the full dance season from the first of September through the end of April and have regular team attendance.

Lift Team

For Boys & Girls ages 14-17, by audition only

Lift Team does beautiful lifts and choreography that require strength from the boys as well as the girls. Because of the lifts done, the safety involved, and the attention to detail that’s needed, we hold auditions for this team and carefully select dancers that work well together. Lift Team meets one night a week for two hours. One hour is with the Lift Team only, where they work on lifts and choreography, and the other hour is with the Strength and Movement class. (The Strength and Movement tuition and costume fees are included in the Lift Team fees). Our Lift Team works hard and they’ve done great at the competitions. Both of our 2021-2022 Lift Teams placed first in their divisions at both Utah Classic AND at Gem State National Show Dance Competition. And our 2022-2023 Lift Team placed first in their division at Gem State National Show Dance Competition. We’re really proud of their hard work (and Emily’s amazing coaching!)

They do local performances and competitions, and all of our teams are national title holders at Gem State Classic National Show Dance Championships. Show Team for dancers with special needs and peer tutors

Our Show Team is for teens and young adults with special needs and peer tutor volunteers. We have a lot of fun and make great friendships! Dancers learn various styles of ballroom dance and learn choreographed team routines that they perform and compete locally at various events. We want all of our dancers to be successful so we work closely with parents to make sure our program is accommodating for the needs of our dancers. Since this is a formation team with set choreography and set numbers of boys and girls, dancers need to be committed for the full dance season from the first of September through the end of April.

**We’re sorry, but we can’t accept any NEW dancers with special needs onto our 2023-2024 team. We wish we could accept everyone but we simply don’t have the class space available this year. Sorry about that! However, we ARE accepting registration for more peer tutors from our Jr/Yth A, B, or Novelty Teams, on a space-available basis.

Understudy for PreTeen/Junior/Youth Teams

We like to have a boy and a girl understudy for each of our teams. The understudies dance on their regular team as a full member, then volunteer to be an understudy for an additional team. The understudies attend class every week, learn the syllabus, and learn ALL of the dancers places in the choreography so they can fill in any of the spots. They’re our “back up plan” and if we have a dancer that’s injured or sick for a performance or competition the understudy fills in for them. If no one is injured or sick then the understudy doesn’t perform with that team, but they’ll still get lots of great instruction time and they still perform with their regular team.

Understudies are expected to be at class every week, work hard, and have great attitudes. We appreciate their hard work, and in compensation they have reduced tuition and their costume fee is waived for the team they’re an understudy for. Dancers can register to be an understudy so we know who’s interested, then we’ll assign dancers to teams that will be a good fit for them on a space-available basis.

Performances/competitions:

  • Look at each individual team for performances/competitions for that team.
Monthly fee:
$25/month for boys or girls
Costume fee:
Costume fee is waived for the team they’re an understudy for

Private Lessons

Private lessons can be set up with our ballroom coach (Emily Wood) and scheduled at a time that works best for everyone. Usually these lessons are for dancers desiring to compete Open or Solo Cabaret, but others are also welcome to arrange lessons if they’re desiring some extra help. Open competitors and Solo Cabaret couples that have Emily as their coach arrange regular lessons with her and she sets choreography specifically for them, highlighting their strengths. Emily helps them with their technique, cleans their routines, and works closely with them at the competitions and throughout the year. You can contact the studio for more information.
